Wild Things VIP members can now switch to official NSW & ACT topo maps when viewing supported Australian trail and peak pages, plus the main Wild Things map.
We’ve offered NZ Topo maps for a long time, and they’ve become one of the standout parts of the Wild Things map experience — using real topo mapping similar to what runners and hikers actually use in the wild.
Now we’re bringing that same experience to Australia, starting with NSW and the ACT.
Topo maps are available for Wild Things VIP members when viewing supported NSW/ACT areas across both detail pages and the main map.
Next up: expanding topo coverage across more Australian states.

You can now include a Strava or Garmin activity link when submitting a new peak, so we can award points and the initial peak bag.
When submitting a new peak, you can now add your Strava or Garmin activity link. This lets us award your Explorer (and any Challenge) points, and log the first peak bag — even if you ran it before the peak was published.
We added this for trail submissions a while ago - and thought it'd be helpful for peaks too!
Wishlist, completed trail and leaderboard filters now support countries, states and counties outside New Zealand.
Wild Things VIP members can now filter their data using countries, regions, states and counties across New Zealand, Australia, the UK and Ireland.
This update improves filtering across:
- completed trails and peaks
- wishlists
- the Wild Explorers leaderboard
Previously, these filters were designed around New Zealand regions only. As the Wild Things community continues growing in Australia and the UK & Ireland, we wanted filtering to better reflect where members actually live and explore.

We’ve also been thinking about future leaderboard filtering based on the location of trails and peaks themselves (rather than the member’s location). That would require some fairly heavy behind-the-scenes calculations, but if that sounds useful to you, let us know — we’d love the feedback.
Wild Things VIP members can now choose between shop credit or a VIP extension for published trail submissions.
Wild Things VIP members can now choose between two rewards when a submitted trail is published.
Previously, published submissions received WT$10 Wild Things shop credit. You can now choose between:
- WT$10 Wild Things shop credit — ready to use on your next order, with no expiry while you are a VIP
- +1 month of Wild Things VIP — ideal if you are outside New Zealand or not shopping right now
Once your trail submission is approved, we’ll email you to choose your reward.

The +1 month VIP option applies to active paid VIP memberships and can be chosen after any free trial period ends.
A handful of minor improvements and fixes to keep things running smoothly.
Improvements:
- Made a number of behind-the-scenes efficiency improvements to help speed things up — including database optimisations and improvements to our backup infrastructure.
- Improved the sign-up and upgrade experience so VIP benefits are clearer when deciding whether to become a VIP member.
- Improved how we handle activity data from Garmin and Strava when some fields are missing, making imports more reliable
Fixes:
- Fixed a bug where the “You could save $X on this order” shop banner was sometimes showing to existing VIP members (oops).
- Fixed an issue where “About VIP” buttons could occasionally appear even if you were already a VIP (also oops).
- Improved Trail Legends alert emails so they aren’t triggered just because someone becomes a VIP (for example if they already held or lost an FKT).
Some VIP partner discounts now also appear in the Wild Things Shop brand list.
We’ve made it easier to discover some of the VIP partner discounts available to members.
As well as appearing on the VIP Rewards page, a number of our brand partners now also appear in the Shop → Brands section.
These are labelled Partner Discount, making it easy to spot brands where VIP members get a discount when purchasing directly from them.
This helps surface some of the great partner offers you might otherwise forget about — including brands like Smith, BASE Compression, Sidas, Real Meals, Teva, Red Paddleboards and more.
A more flexible way to be VIP — monthly billing has arrived.

We’ve introduced a new Monthly VIP membership option — giving you more flexibility in how you join (or stay part of) the Wild Things community.
Until now, VIP has been available as a yearly membership. That’s still our best-value option — but we know that smaller, more manageable payments can make things easier for some members. Monthly VIP gives you the same benefits, just billed month-to-month.
Here’s what that means:
- $7 NZD per month ($7 AUD in Australia or £3.50 in the UK)
- All the usual VIP benefits
- Cancel anytime
- No long-term commitment

- Adjusted our “Order coming” WhatsApp messages to only send during daytime hours — no more accidental 5am wake-up pings if we’re up early packing orders!
- Clarified that all shop pricing is in NZD (helpful for our overseas runners).
- Added a new “One Liner” description field to Trail and Peak listings — a quick snapshot to help you understand the route at a glance.

- Squashed a bug where your Last Completed date on trails within your account could be wrong (if you've done it more than once in the year)
- Realised that in some situations, our Live Chat bubble wasn't visible - eeek. So we fixed that too.
